Salton Sea / Bombay Beach, CA – Shirley and Jay Engagement

This was an epic day. I’ll admit it was slightly miserable as it was about 115 degrees outside ( I’m not kidding), but I just can’t get enough of the Salton Sea. I’ve shot there before for a TTD session as well as a Portrait session and it never ceases to amaze me. It’s pretty gross and the shores are lined with dead fish and bones, but the juxtaposition of the dilapidated surroundings of the Salton Sea with beautiful people in amazing clothes always makes for a fun shoot. Shirley and Jay were those beautiful people in amazing clothes (and good sports too). Though it was hot and miserable they made the day a ton of fun. Shirley was really excited about making the trek out to the Salton Sea and she really wanted to do an edgy/editorial style shoot and after talking about the locations she was interested in it seemed the Salton Sea was the best fit. I think we got some amazing stuff and I am super excited to head out to Catalina Island for the their wedding!

Salton Sea – Trever O’Brien Portrait Shoot

I was scouting the Salton Sea recently for a trash the dress session I have coming up and I figured I would drag my brother along so we could play around with some editorial shoot ideas I had. So I made him pose as the subject in a bunch of crazy locations for me, and man did we have fun. The Salton Sea is not really somewhere you would really choose to picnic, but visually it is pretty amazing. It was really nice to get away for a day with my brother and to be able to shoot some out of the ordinary stuff. We played around a bit with some color, lighting, motion, and my brother practiced his GQ poses. Slightly fashion photography esque and editorial in style, and tons of fun to shoot. Enjoy!
