Salton Sea / Bombay Beach, CA – Shirley and Jay Engagement
This was an epic day. I’ll admit it was slightly miserable as it was about 115 degrees outside ( I’m not kidding), but I just can’t get enough of the Salton Sea. I’ve shot there before for a TTD session as well as a Portrait session and it never ceases to amaze me. It’s pretty gross and the shores are lined with dead fish and bones, but the juxtaposition of the dilapidated surroundings of the Salton Sea with beautiful people in amazing clothes always makes for a fun shoot. Shirley and Jay were those beautiful people in amazing clothes (and good sports too). Though it was hot and miserable they made the day a ton of fun. Shirley was really excited about making the trek out to the Salton Sea and she really wanted to do an edgy/editorial style shoot and after talking about the locations she was interested in it seemed the Salton Sea was the best fit. I think we got some amazing stuff and I am super excited to head out to Catalina Island for the their wedding!
Ponte Winery – Brad and Gladys’ Engagement Session
This was an amazing day! I met Brad and Glady’s out at Ponte Winery in Temecula, CA for a fun filled day of photos, good food, and lots of laughs! Brad and Gladys are getting married at Ponte this summer and wanted to do their engagement photos there so we could get familiar with the venue and scout some of the locations together in advance. Good news is there won’t be a shortage of amazing places to use for shooting! They came prepared with some fun ideas for the shoot as well. Brad’s last name is Tally and so they brought a bottle of white wine by Tally vineyards that we used, and Gladys is a big fan of color so we made use of a really fun shade umbrella as well as great scarves etc. Unfortunately the vines were not in full bloom while we were there, but I noticed a fantastic orange grove just across the street from Ponte that we ended up using for some really fun photos that really allowed us to capitalize on colors and matched well with the color schemes Brad and Gladys had already selected. We had such a great time getting lost in the groves and playing around in the vineyard and the food at Ponte is amazing. Thanks to Brad and Gladys for an amazing day!
The Grand Tradition, Fallbrook, CA – Sarah and Jeff
The Grand Tradition is an amazing venue and I can’t wait to shoot there again! There are several acres of beautiful gardens, gazebos, waterfalls, you name it! We were pretty bummed that it decided to rain on us that day, but even the inside of the Grand Tradition is stunning and so we still got some beautiful shots. Sarah and Jeff are so great and I have had so much fun getting to know them and shoot them over the past year or so! I shot their engagement photos at The Grand last year and was excited to be back with them again! I am bummed that it’s over!! But I think Sarah is planning a trash the dress session soon so there is more fun to come.
Jenni and Daman, Oak Farm Vineyards, Lodi CA
I have really been enjoying utilizing everything around me when I shoot weddings. Locations can be key, but trying to use them in different ways to create new effects can be one of the fun challenges that I thoroughly enjoy. The trick can be finding the right props and being prepared for any situation.
Jenni and Daman were a true delight and were able to meet me at the ceremony site the day before the wedding to walk through the location – Oak Farm Vineyards, Lodi CA – together. We came across the blue truck, as featured below, and I was immediately drawn to it and got very excited about being able to use it. There was, however, an inherent problem with using the truck: it was filthy inside and out. Obviously dirt and wedding dresses don’t mix, so it was key that we were able to find the truck in advance so that we could bring towels and cleaning supplies the next day in order to make sure that nothing would stain or ruin Jenni’s dress and, in this case, Daman’s white tux as well!
