Get Your Candid On! – 5 Tips for Capturing Those Special Moments
Who doesn’t love a great candid shot. A photo that truly captures the emotion, excitement, and joy in a moment. But truth is, these can be some of the hardest shots to capture. Especially during a professional shoot. The reason being is that it requires the subjects to not only experience a moment, but to also share that moment in front of other people – with cameras. I’m not sure about you, but for some people knowing that others are watching and even photographing you while you are simply trying to relax and interact with each other can can be a little harder than it sounds. So if you’re a lover of candid shots and are hoping to one day be the subject of one (or even if you’re looking for ways to help capture that great candid shot through your own lens), then you’re in luck! I have put together a few tricks I have learned over the years to help you achieve your candid goals.
From creating a natural environment to wiping that fake smile off your face, here are 5 ways to ensure your candid photos are at their best!

Oregon – A Roadtrip Adventure – 2010
So I took a road trip to Oregon this summer to visit my grandpa (Papa)! It was a spur of the moment thing that my dad and I threw out one day as we were reminiscing about the years we used to vacation up there. The longer we pondered the idea the more we realized it was incontrovertibly something we HAD to do. I know I ached to get up to the state where I was born and tromp around in the rain and breath what can only best be described as truly fresh air. So the date was set and the plans were made and set in stone. Once in Oregon we ventured out to the coast (Florence to Oceanside) to discover places like Heceta Head Lighthouse and my new favorite: Cape Creek Bridge. From there we headed into Portland where we met up with my sister and her boyfriend. Then we snatched up my Papa from his home and whisked him off to the coast again to visit Canon Beach, one of my all time favorite childhood places. It’s amazing that places you believed to be magical in some way as a child can still feel that way as you grow older…if you let them. And Canon beach was saturated with this magical nostalgia in spite of some of the new renovations in town. We relived memories and retold stories that we have laughed about a million times as we walked down to the iconic Haystack Rock. Post Canon Beach we explored locations I hadn’t been to before like Multnomah Falls and the Portland Zoo, but one of the biggest highlights was our adventure into the wild storybook land that is the Enchanted Forest. We used to go there all the time as kids, but let me tell you it is an entirely different experience as an adult. It’s kinda creepy in an amazing way! If you’ve never been it is an absolute must! Anyway, I ramble. Let me just say it was an amazing time and I thoroughly enjoyed reliving parts of my childhood with some of my favorite people in the world. Sadly certain people I would have loved to have there with me were not. But you can’t have it all I suppose. Enjoy some of the pics from my summer adventure back in time.
