Engagement Session in South Pasadena, CA – Kate and Lenny
South Pasadena is officially one of my new favorite locations for shooting. I don’t know if you have ever seen the old Rialto Theater off of Fair Oaks, but it is an architectural gem! Unfortunately due to some construction taking place we weren’t able to use the front of the theater but there was a fantastic side wall with an old stairwell and a single door that I just loved. Before we made it to the theater we started at the South Pasadena Public Library for some romantic shots. It’s a beautiful library with lots of trees, stairs, buildings, and fantastic light! Plus it’s set in a quaint little neighborhood in South Pasadena so it’s surrounded by tree lined streets and lots of ambience. Kate and Lenny were absolute troopers and we had a total blast as we roamed the city. Be sure to check out their video slideshow as well. Thanks for an amazing day guys!
Salton Sea / Bombay Beach, CA – Shirley and Jay Engagement
This was an epic day. I’ll admit it was slightly miserable as it was about 115 degrees outside ( I’m not kidding), but I just can’t get enough of the Salton Sea. I’ve shot there before for a TTD session as well as a Portrait session and it never ceases to amaze me. It’s pretty gross and the shores are lined with dead fish and bones, but the juxtaposition of the dilapidated surroundings of the Salton Sea with beautiful people in amazing clothes always makes for a fun shoot. Shirley and Jay were those beautiful people in amazing clothes (and good sports too). Though it was hot and miserable they made the day a ton of fun. Shirley was really excited about making the trek out to the Salton Sea and she really wanted to do an edgy/editorial style shoot and after talking about the locations she was interested in it seemed the Salton Sea was the best fit. I think we got some amazing stuff and I am super excited to head out to Catalina Island for the their wedding!
Moss Point Beach – Laguna, CA – Bengi and Monica Engagement Session
What a perfect day this was. The weather was amazing, the light was in our favor, and Bengi and Monica were a total blast to shoot. We walked around the downtown area of Laguna for awhile. It’s a great spot for little storefront shops and there is even an old London Style phone booth there that is always fun to use. After that we headed down to Moss Point Beach for some fun shots on the coast at sunset. All in all it was a gorgeous day and I couldn’t have had a better time getting to know Bengi and Monica more. I am super excited to be shooting there wedding this fall at the Coco Palms restaurant in Pomona!
Engagement Session, Palos Verdes, CA – Patrick and Rachelle
What a great day this was! Palos Verdes is a great town full of some amazing locations. This particular day there was a crazy fog bank that kept following us around. For the most part kept it’s distance so we were able to get some really fun shots. Even if the fog did come rolling all the way in I think we would have gotten some really fun shots! Patrick and Rachelle are a super fun couple that I think would really shine in any situation. They are both extremely funny and full of energy and we had so much fun just driving up and down the coast as Patrick tried to remember his way around his old stomping grounds.
Engagement Session in Hermosa Beach – Beti and Berhanu
This was actually my first time shooting in Hermosa Beach, and I am definitely going back! While it is a little more crowded some of the other beaches I normally shoot at, it also offers a different environment and new things to play with (primarily a pier!)! Beti and Berhanu were so much fun and they were totally game for anything. We may have gotten a bit sandy, but it was well worth it. I got to play with some fun textures in post, and I have been playing with the Lensbaby more and more, so keep your eyes out for that as well. Enjoy!
Moss Point Beach, Laguna Ca – Brian and Samantha Engagement Session
What a fun day this was! I am shooting Brian and Samantha’s wedding at the Castaway Restaurant in Burbank this fall and after shooting their engagement session I can’t wait for their wedding! They brought their cruisers down to the beach for some fun shots around Laguna Beach and then we were able to get some really fun romantic shots overlooking Moss Point beach. I go to play around with some fun toys as well (like the Lensbaby). It was great watching them interact, they have so much fun with each other and you can really tell they are crazy about each other. I loved being able to spend the day with them and I am looking forward to spending more time with them at the wedding!
Bridlewood Winery, Santa Ynez, CA – David and Monique
I met David and Monique in Los Olivos just outside of Santa Barbara in the heart of SoCal wine country. The weather was perfect and David and Monique were an absolute treat to be around. After getting some photos in Los Olivos we made out way to the Bridlewood Estate Winery, which is an absolutely gorgeous winery with an amazing tree lined entrance. By the end of the day we had spent nearly an entire day wandering around taking pics, tasting some wine, taking more pics and just having a really great time! They were extremely fun and easy to shoot and it felt more like I was enjoying a day in wine country with friends than it did like I was hard at work. But alas, we were there for photos! So here are some samples. Enjoy!

Laguna Beach, Pearl Street Beach – Andre and Laica Engagement Session
Andre and Laica are such a fun couple! We had a blast walking around Laguna Beach and we even found a fun new spot for photos inĀ Pearl Street Beach. I have shot a lot at Moss Point Beach, which is only a couple of blocks away, but tides can be a problem at Moss Point. So it was fun to find an equally beautiful beach with more room to maneuver when the tide is high. The weather was absolutely perfect and there was just the right amount of clouds to grab some of the color from the sunset and make for a beautiful evening shoot. But it was Andre and Laica’s energy and personalities that really made this shoot fun. They are a true delight to be around and their smiles are contagious. I can’t wait for their wedding!

Vasquez Rocks, Poppy Fields – Laura and Ryan Engagement Session
This was an amazing day! I have been wanting to shoot out at the Poppy Fields off of the 14 in Antelope Valley for some time now and they did not disappoint! Such great colors! And Laura and Ryan are true troopers! We spent a couple of hours out at the poppy fields in the blazing sun and I had them running and jumping and even rolling around in the Poppy fields and they were committed 100%!! We had so much fun out there! I can’t wait to go back next year. From there we headed over to Vasquez Rocks, which is a beautiful National Park that features some pretty famous Rock formations (any Star Trek fans?). We hiked around through the park as the sun was setting and by the end of the day we had definitely gotten our exercise, but it was a truly memorable day and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Laura and Ryan. They were such fun to be around and they are truly genuine people and I am very excited to be a part of their big day next year at Le Chene!

Ponte Winery – Brad and Gladys’ Engagement Session
This was an amazing day! I met Brad and Glady’s out at Ponte Winery in Temecula, CA for a fun filled day of photos, good food, and lots of laughs! Brad and Gladys are getting married at Ponte this summer and wanted to do their engagement photos there so we could get familiar with the venue and scout some of the locations together in advance. Good news is there won’t be a shortage of amazing places to use for shooting! They came prepared with some fun ideas for the shoot as well. Brad’s last name is Tally and so they brought a bottle of white wine by Tally vineyards that we used, and Gladys is a big fan of color so we made use of a really fun shade umbrella as well as great scarves etc. Unfortunately the vines were not in full bloom while we were there, but I noticed a fantastic orange grove just across the street from Ponte that we ended up using for some really fun photos that really allowed us to capitalize on colors and matched well with the color schemes Brad and Gladys had already selected. We had such a great time getting lost in the groves and playing around in the vineyard and the food at Ponte is amazing. Thanks to Brad and Gladys for an amazing day!
