Union Station Engagement Session – Jennifer and Doug

Practically perfect in every way. Union Station provides a rustic warmth bursting with romance and visual intrigue that is hard to come by in LA. The architecture inside makes me want to jump into an old movie. Top that off with an incredible couple and you got yourself one visual/fun/exciting/romantic engagement session. I had such a blast getting to shoot with Jennifer and Doug as we hopped trains and made our way through the city and up and down alleys. They were so great to be around and really embodied the concepts for the shoot. Fantastic locations, great clothes, fun accessories, and an amazing couple makes for a fantastic shoot! Thanks for rocking this session guys!

Mission San Juan Capistrano – Engagement Session with Veronica and Greg!

The Mission San Juan Capistrano has to be one of my favorite places to shoot. The excavated ruins not only act as a fantastic backdrop but also aid in creating a romantic and mysterious setting. I believe locations can truly create a certain mood and the Mission certainly succeeds in doing so! That’s why I am so excited that it will also be home to our Love & Candy Sweetheart Sessions taking place on Sunday January 29th. That is going to be an absolute blast!

This session was Veronica and Greg’s first time visiting the Mission so it was fun to watch them take it all in and experience the mission throughout the shoot. Because of the tan and brick coloring throughout the grounds I thought it might be fun to have them in some brighter colors so they would really pop against the background and make for a fun juxtaposition. Vintage meets modern in a way. I had a fantastic time getting to know Veronica and Greg more and more throughout the shoot as we laughed and talked the afternoon away all while taking some great photos. I am truly excited to be working with them and can’t wait for their wedding this winter at Rancho Los Lomas!

Engagement Session in Pasadena – Emily and Etienne

Emily and Etienne won a free engagement session through a recent video contest on our Facebook Fan Page (you can see the video on our FB page, wink wink), and the witty charm that helped them clench their win was definitely present on the day of their shoot! In addition to fun and creative locations and compositions they wanted to be sure to get some natural/candid shots of the two of them interacting. For this, they brought reinforcements: an arsenal of Chuck Norris Jokes. A couple of my personal faves: “Some magicians can walk on water, Chuck Norris can swim through land” or “Chuck Norris understood the ending of Lost”. I tell you what, if you’re ever in need of a good ol’ natural laugh, Chuck Norris is your man. I had an amazing time with these two and I think I improved my six pack (2 pack) from laughing so hard, so thank you to Emily and Etienne for rocking this shoot and for being so much fun to be around!

Old Town Pasadena, CA – Stephanie and Jason’s Engagement Session

This city is endless! Every time I shoot in Pasadena there seems to be something new and exciting to explore. Of course that only makes ending an awesome engagement session with an awesome couple like Stephanie and Jason almost impossible! We chose Pasadena for the location of the shoot because that’s where Stephanie and Jason had their first date and I thought it would be fun to follow the theme of a “first date” for the shoot. So I had Jason bring flowers and re-enact their first meeting in front of the Equator. It was almost like we had a little time portal as they relived their first moments together and I watched as their faces lit up as they talked about those pivotal moments they shared together a few years back. The moments that led them to where they are. From there we wandered a bit. I followed them around the town, letting them interact as much as possible, stopping here and there to utilize some of the fun alleys, painted walls, and old architecture that the city has to offer.  Then it was off to the infamous Colorado bridge. Up on the bridge we had fun playing with long exposures, blurring headlights of passing cars into a streak of light, and the old street lamps that just emit a classic old hollywood vibe. I felt bad having Stephanie and Jason freeze in a dipping-kiss position for a few seconds while I left the shutter open to allow the headlights of the passing cars to make streaks of blurred light, but I could tell that they didn’t seem to mind holding a kiss. I had an amazing time with this colorful and fun filled day and I can’t wait to work with Stephanie and Jason again when we shoot their wedding at the Calamigos Equestrian center in May!

Pasadena Engagement Session under the Colorado Bridge – Chris and Suzanne

If you haven’t been down to the Arroyo Seco Park in Pasadena, you must! It’s a gorgeous stretch of nature that is perfect for photos! For Chris and Suzanne’s engagement shoot I took them right down under the Colorado Bridge in Pasadena. You get a little exercise hiking around, but it is definitely worth it. Chris and Suzanne were total troopers as we climbed through weeds, up disintegrating stone staircases, and through sticky cobwebs. They even got a bit adventurous with their wardrobe changes! We planned the timing so as to get some nice afternoon light sifting in through the trees and I was very pleased with the outcome. Thanks to Chris and Suzanne for their willingness to trek through the wilderness and for making the day so much fun! I can’t wait to be a part of their big day as well. Enjoy!

Engagement Session in South Pasadena, CA – Kate and Lenny

South Pasadena is officially one of my new favorite locations for shooting. I don’t know if you have ever seen the old Rialto Theater off of Fair Oaks, but it is an architectural gem! Unfortunately due to some construction taking place we weren’t able to use the front of the theater but there was a fantastic side wall with an old stairwell and a single door that I just loved. Before we made it to the theater we started at the South Pasadena Public Library for some romantic shots. It’s a beautiful library with lots of trees, stairs, buildings, and fantastic light! Plus it’s set in a quaint little neighborhood in South Pasadena so it’s surrounded by tree lined streets and lots of ambience. Kate and Lenny were absolute troopers and we had a total blast as we roamed the city. Be sure to check out their video slideshow as well. Thanks for an amazing day guys!

Salton Sea / Bombay Beach, CA – Shirley and Jay Engagement

This was an epic day. I’ll admit it was slightly miserable as it was about 115 degrees outside ( I’m not kidding), but I just can’t get enough of the Salton Sea. I’ve shot there before for a TTD session as well as a Portrait session and it never ceases to amaze me. It’s pretty gross and the shores are lined with dead fish and bones, but the juxtaposition of the dilapidated surroundings of the Salton Sea with beautiful people in amazing clothes always makes for a fun shoot. Shirley and Jay were those beautiful people in amazing clothes (and good sports too). Though it was hot and miserable they made the day a ton of fun. Shirley was really excited about making the trek out to the Salton Sea and she really wanted to do an edgy/editorial style shoot and after talking about the locations she was interested in it seemed the Salton Sea was the best fit. I think we got some amazing stuff and I am super excited to head out to Catalina Island for the their wedding!

Moss Point Beach – Laguna, CA – Bengi and Monica Engagement Session

What a perfect day this was. The weather was amazing, the light was in our favor, and Bengi and Monica were a total blast to shoot. We walked around the downtown area of Laguna for awhile. It’s a great spot for little storefront shops and there is even an old London Style phone booth there that is always fun to use. After that we headed down to Moss Point Beach for some fun shots on the coast at sunset. All in all it was a gorgeous day and I couldn’t have had a better time getting to know Bengi and Monica more. I am super excited to be shooting there wedding this fall at the Coco Palms restaurant in Pomona!
